GO GREEN ‐ New home building practices that benefit future generations

Building environmentally friendly communities that are a breath of fresh air. OPUS Homes Go Green

One of our core beliefs is to provide our clients with healthy, energy efficient homes using environmentally sustainable practices. Our GoGreen program allows our clients to incorporate
various energy saving and health promoting features into their homes to be as environmentally friendly as they desire.

Opus Homes wants to give you a healthy and comfortable home for your family. That’s why we build your home to the highest green standards to give you a healthier living environment and lower utility bills.

In addition to our standard green initiatives that help create healthier, more energy efficient homes, we offer several GoGreen

  • EnergySaving Design Elements (additional windows to maximum daylight availability, well insulated windows and ceilings, and efficient HVAC systems);
  • EnergyStar™ products (lighting, appliances, and water heaters);
  • Water efficient products (low flow toilets, shower heads, and faucets);
  • LowEmitting Materials (flooring, paint, broadloom, and caulk/sealers);
  • Products that Promote Healthy Indoor Air Quality (Heat recovery ventilators, high quality air cleaners, humidifiers)
  • Use of Recycled Materials (broadloom, drywall, vinyl siding, and driveway granular material made from recycled concrete)
  • Sustainable Resource Management (the use of engineered hardwood, which is made from 30% less lumber then the standard solid hardwood)

Opus will provide each Client 3 tiers of green options available for each home. Details to these options will be made available shortly.

Green Home Building Practices:

  • All OPUS Homes feature an HRV System (Heat Recovery Ventilator) – distributing fresh air throughout the home and minimizing poor contaminants.

  • Dual Flush toilet system featured throughout all baths – enhances water conservation.
  • MDF Trim – made from a renewable resource vs. finger jointed pine.

  • Hardwoods selected from sustainable forests.
  • Broadloom supplied through ENVIROSELECT line, produced using completely recycled materials and within an optimized manufacturing facility.
  • Steel insulated rollup garage door, with an equivalent R9 Value, complete with complimenting glass panels aiding
  • in the reduction of lumber usage and assisting to provide an insulated element within the garage area.
  • Expanding foam insulation applied around all windows and doors – for draft prevention.

Green Community Building Practices:

In order to conserve lumber, OPUS has opted not to provide wood decking. Should a client desire to have said deck, an appropriately sized design shall be submitted to the municipality for permit, please see Sales Consultant for details.

  • Recycled aggregate materials for driveway base.
  • Waste Management Program, including source separation – lumber and drywall recycling.
  • Recycling site temporary stairs and railings used throughout construction process.
  • Prefabricated Panelization (where applicable) – preconstructed wall and floor systems ensure less lumber wastage.
