OPUS homeowner does a little building of his own – in Ecuador!

In May of this year, we were delighted to support one of our homeowners, Karan Kohli, raise funds to participate in a Help Learn Discover excursion to Ecuador.  The program, helps bring pre-med students to Ecuador for an invaluable life experience.

In addition to volunteer work, which involved building the foundations of 21 homes, Karan also participated in pre-med rotations. Karan and his group were able to raise close to $44,000 to support the families in the town of Pujili. It was wonderful to hear from Karan upon his return:

“Dear Andrea:

I have arrived back from Ecuador and had an amazing time there. I got to meet so many great people and seeing the reaction of the community as they saw us arrive was priceless. The May group raised close to $44,000 and that was well above our goal of $33,000. Your donation helped our project out quite a bit. The money from the May group was used to buy tools, gloves and cement. I got to help dig, mix concrete and finish the foundations of 21 houses. The construction is going smoothly and well ahead of schedule. I would like to thank Opus Homes on behalf of the organization Help Learn Discover, on behalf of all the volunteers, and especially the community of Pujili. This project would not have worked at all without the support of donors like yourself. Even if we changed one life, I believe our mission was a success.”

For both myself and the OPUS team, interacting and supporting the members of our communities is one of the most rewarding things we do, and we are truly grateful for the opportunity to give back.
