Timeless as these finishes are, it’s a little more difficult to identify ‘trends’, but designers are finding ways to make these traditional materials new again. According to Tracy Ferguson at York Fabrica, quartz, granite and marble will continue to be top sellers in 2015, but with a few things thrown into the mix:

• The use of two different materials and complementary patterns in the same kitchen is popular.  If you elect to use a porous material, such as marble, use it in an area that is less used, as it is more prone to damage and staining.

• Clean and crisp profiles using mitred edges to conceal seams for a modern look.

• Finely detailed profiles are much more extravagant, and look incredibly rich and polished.

York Fabrica is excited to report that new lines are expected in 2015, including new Statuario and Calacatta and Cararra marbles hand-picked from Italy, as well as sleek and modern ceasarstone / quartz, and traditional looks from Viatera.

One thing that never changes in the world of quartz, granite or marble countertops is proper maintenance to keep your beautiful counters looking like new. If you elect to use marble, be cognizant that this stone is porous and is more prone to staining.  It’s important to understand the pros, cons and maintenance required when choosing marble.  There are fantastic sealers available on the market and we recommend sealing marble countertops on a regular basis.  Use only the cleaning products and materials recommended after installation and avoid contact with acidic cleaners and/or vinegar.
